Hello! Welcome to the new Disability Identity webpage on the DAS website. Disability identity refers to possessing a positive sense of self and feelings of connection to, or solidarity with the Disability Community. The purpose of this webpage is to introduce you to disability history, identity, and culture. This information is not a comprehensive or exhaustive search of the literature/videos available on these topics. Rather, it is meant to provide the basics with enough information to encourage the reader/viewer to further explore these topics and what disability means to your own identity, or how to be an ally for disability social justice (Remember, Google is your friend!). Disability narratives are the stories people with disabilities relate about their lives and experiences that can highlight issues of disability identity. We hope these resources will start or support you on a journey of self-discovery and embracing your identity as a person with a disability.
