For students who have documented disabilities which impacts their functioning due to random or cyclical acute episodes, early access to Canvas materials may be considered an appropriate accommodation. This does not give the student early access to exams or discussion forums/boards/posts. This accommodation only applies when the instructor has locked the Canvas modules weekly. If the Canvas modules are available ahead of time, then all students have access to the course materials to work on at the rate they choose, and no further early access is required. Students who receive this accommodation are not permitted to share these materials with their peers.
Once approved for this accommodation and when requested, faculty will receive information from DAS regarding the following:
Provide access to online course material (e.g., articles, assignments, lecture notes, etc.) at least one week prior to opening the material to the rest of the class.
Materials can be provided by opening your Canvas modules early for the entire class, or emailing the materials to the student individually a week ahead of time.
